What is an excise warehouse?

An excise warehouse is a facility where goods may be stored without payment of duty until such a time as the goods are removed for sale or for further processing. Excise warehouses are typically used for storing goods such as alcohol, tobacco, and fuel on which excise taxes are levied.

These warehouses are monitored by the relevant customs authority to ensure that the goods stored in them are not illegally sold or smuggled.
