What is a Double-Blind Shipment?

A Double-Blind Shipment, also known as a Double-Blind Bill of Lading (B/L), is a special arrangement in which the identity of both the shipper and the consignee is kept confidential from each other. In this scenario, the carrier issues two sets of bills of lading—one set for the shipper and another for the consignee—without disclosing each party’s details to the other.

Double-Blind Shipments are used to protect the interests of the shipper and the consignee, especially when they do not want the other party to have access to their commercial and pricing information. This type of shipment can be useful in sensitive business transactions or when maintaining privacy is essential.
