What does Carriers' Lien refer to?

A Carriers’ Lien is a legal right or claim that a carrier (such as a shipping line or trucking company) may have over the cargo or goods for unpaid transportation charges. In the event that the shipper, consignee, or cargo owner fails to pay the freight charges or other related fees, the carrier may assert a lien over the goods to recover the outstanding amount. The lien allows the carrier to retain possession of the cargo until the outstanding charges are settled. Carriers’ liens are typically governed by applicable laws and regulations, and the carrier must follow specific procedures to exercise this right lawfully.
