Apparent Good Order and Condition

Tags: Glossary

A term used to describe the condition of goods at the time of shipment.

What does Apparent Good Order and Condition mean?

Apparent Good Order and Condition (AGOC) is a term used in the shipping industry to describe the condition of cargo, equipment or vessel at the time of loading or delivery. It is an inspection process that determines if the cargo or equipment is in good working order and free from visible damage or defects.

When cargo is loaded onto a vessel, the captain and crew conduct an AGOC inspection to ensure that the cargo is properly stowed, secured and protected. The inspection verifies that the cargo is free from damage, contamination, or any other defects that may have occurred during transportation. Any visible damages or defects are noted on the bill of lading or other shipping documents.
