What is Mate's Receipt?

A Mate’s Receipt is a document used in ocean shipping that serves as a receipt for cargo received by the vessel’s officer, known as the mate. The Mate’s Receipt includes information about the shipment, including the name and address of the shipper and the consignee, the weight and dimensions of the cargo, and the intended destination. The Mate’s Receipt is used to verify that the cargo has been received by the vessel and is in good condition and is often required before the Bill of Lading can be issued.
