What is a Drop-off Charge?

A Drop-off Charge, also known as a one-way fee or intermodal drop charge, is a fee applied by a carrier or logistics provider when a shipping container is returned to a different location from where it was picked up. This charge is typically associated with one-way container moves, where the container is not returned to the original point of origin but is dropped off at a different location or terminal.

Drop-off charges compensate carriers for the additional costs and logistics involved in repositioning the container back to its point of origin or for the loss of revenue due to the container not being available for a return trip.
