What does Booking mean in shipping?

Booking in shipping refers to the process of making a formal arrangement with a transportation provider to secure space for the shipment of goods. It is a crucial step in the logistics and supply chain process. When a booking is made, the shipper or freight forwarder communicates the details of the shipment to the transportation provider, such as a shipping line, airline, or trucking company. The booking includes information such as the origin and destination of the cargo, the type and quantity of goods, weight, dimensions, and requested pickup or delivery dates. By making a booking, the shipper ensures that the necessary transportation resources, such as a container, vessel, aircraft, or truck, are allocated for the shipment.
