Regulations mandating submission of shipment data prior to arrival.

What are Advanced Filing Rules (AFR)?

Advanced Filing Rules (AFR) are regulations that require the submission of shipment data to the relevant authorities before the arrival of goods at their destination. These rules are typically implemented by customs administrations to enhance security, facilitate risk assessment, and ensure compliance with import and export regulations.

The AFR specifies the timeline for submitting advanced electronic information about the cargo, such as details of the goods, consignor, consignee, vessel, and route. Compliance with AFR is crucial for smooth customs clearance processes, reducing the risk of delays, penalties, or other complications in international trade.
