What is a Child-Labor Certificate?

A Child-Labor Certificate in shipping is a document that certifies that a ship’s crew does not include any children who are under the legal working age. The certificate is required to comply with international regulations that aim to protect the rights of children and prevent their exploitation.

Under the International Labour Organization’s Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC 2006), shipowners are required to ensure that the ship’s crew does not include any seafarer under the age of 16 years, and that seafarers aged 16-18 years are not employed in hazardous work or work that could jeopardize their health, safety, or morals. The MLC 2006 also requires ship owners to maintain records and documentation to demonstrate compliance with these requirements.
