What does Customs and Border Protection (CBP) mean?

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency within the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that is responsible for regulating and facilitating international trade, collecting duties, and enforcing trade and travel regulations. CBP is the largest law enforcement agency within DHS, with more than 60,000 employees, including border patrol agents, customs officers, and support personnel.

The primary mission of CBP is to protect the borders of the United States, including the detection and prevention of illegal entry of people and goods. CBP operates at ports of entry, such as airports, seaports, and land border crossings, and is responsible for screening travelers and cargo entering the country to ensure compliance with U.S. laws and regulations. CBP also works to prevent the entry of dangerous goods, such as weapons, drugs, and counterfeit items.
