Automated Brokerage Interface (ABI)

Tags: Glossary

A system used by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to automate the processing of import transactions.

How does Automated Brokerage Interface (ABI) work?

The Automated Brokerage Interface (ABI) is a system used in the shipping industry to facilitate the electronic transmission of customs data between customs brokers, importers, and other parties involved in the international trade process.

The ABI system is designed to automate the process of data submission and processing for customs clearances, allowing for faster and more efficient handling of shipments. It is used by customs brokers to submit electronic entries to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which is responsible for enforcing customs regulations and collecting import duties and taxes.

With ABI, customs brokers can electronically transmit entry information, tariff classification, and other relevant information to the CBP. The system automatically validates the information, and if there are any errors, it notifies the broker immediately so that they can make the necessary corrections. This helps to streamline the customs clearance process and reduce the likelihood of errors or delays.
