Cleat

In shipping, a cleat is a device used to secure a rope or cable to a vessel or dock. Cleats are typically made of metal or wood and are bolted to the deck or dock to provide a strong point for securing ropes or cables. 

Cleats are used to secure a vessel to a dock or mooring, to adjust the tension of lines during loading or unloading operations, and to adjust the position of a vessel relative to the dock. They are also used to secure cargo on board a vessel. 

The size and shape of a cleat depends on the size of the vessel and the size of the rope or cable being used. Cleats come in a variety of shapes, including T-shaped, Y-shaped, and U-shaped, and can have one or more horns to provide additional grip.

Properly securing a vessel and its cargo is important for the safety of the crew, the protection of the environment, and the prevention of damage to the vessel or cargo.
