What does Carriage Paid To (CPT) mean?

Carriage Paid To (CPT) is an Incoterm used in international shipping that describes the seller’s responsibilities for the transport of goods. CPT means that the seller is responsible for the cost of transporting the goods to the destination but does not include insurance coverage for the goods during the shipment.

Under CPT terms, the seller is responsible for arranging and paying for the transportation of the goods to the named place of destination, which is agreed upon by the buyer and seller. Once the goods have been delivered to the agreed-upon destination, the responsibility for any further costs or risks associated with the goods is transferred from the seller to the buyer. This includes any costs associated with unloading the goods and clearing them through customs.

Unlike CIP, which includes insurance coverage for the goods during shipment, CPT does not include insurance. It is the responsibility of the buyer to obtain insurance coverage for the goods during shipment.
