What is a Certificate of Origin?

A Certificate of Origin (CO) is an international trade document that declares the specific shipment is wholly manufactured, produced, and obtained in a specific country. In short, this certificate shows the nationality of the product, and it is a step taken by the exporter to satisfy the requirements of customs and trade.

The Certificate of Origin is of two types: Preferential and Non-Preferential.

The preferential one shows that the cargo being exported is subject to reduced tariffs or other exemptions. Whereas the non-preferential CO is a common certificate generated for the products that have no preferential treatment.
