What is an airway bill (AWB)document?

An airway bill is a document that accompanies shipments of goods and indicates that the goods have been accepted by the carrier. The bill of lading is a similar document, but it is used for maritime shipments.

An airway bill contains four copies – one for the shipper, one for the consignee, one for the carrier, and one for the notify party.
