The Maritime Administration (MARAD) is an agency of the US government that is responsible for overseeing the US maritime transportation system, including the development and maintenance of the nation’s merchant marine. MARAD’s mission is to promote the US maritime industry, support national security through the maintenance of a strong maritime presence, and ensure the safety and efficiency of the nation’s waterways.
