What does Lading mean?

Lading, also known as a bill of lading, is a document that serves as a receipt for cargo and a contract between the shipper and the carrier. The lading document includes information such as the type of cargo being shipped, the weight or volume of the cargo, the point of origin, the destination, and the terms and conditions of the shipment. It also serves as proof of ownership and title to the cargo and is used to facilitate payment and customs clearance. In some cases, the lading may also serve as a negotiable instrument that can be used as collateral or for financing.
