What is a Carrier Haulage?

Carrier Haulage refers to a transportation arrangement in which the shipping carrier, rather than the shipper or consignee, is responsible for providing the trucking or transportation service for the inland movement of containers or cargo. In carrier haulage, the carrier organizes and arranges the transport of containers from the port or terminal to the consignee’s or shipper’s premises or designated location. This is in contrast to merchant haulage, where the shipper or consignee arranges and manages the inland transportation using their own or a third-party trucking company.
