What is a Capacity?

Capacity in shipping refers to the amount of space available on a vessel or in a shipping container for carrying cargo. Capacity is typically measured in terms of volume or weight, and it is a key factor in determining the cost and efficiency of shipping operations.

The capacity of a vessel or container is influenced by several factors, such as its size, design, and the type of cargo being transported. For example, a container ship may have a capacity of several thousand twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), while a smaller vessel may only be able to carry a few hundred TEUs.
