Who is an Agent?

An agent refers to a person or company who acts as an intermediary between the ship owners, charterers, or operators and the port authorities, cargo owners, or other stakeholders.

Shipping agents are responsible for handling a wide range of activities related to the arrival and departure of ships at ports, such as arranging for pilotage, tug assistance, and berth allocation. They also facilitate the loading and unloading of cargo, arrange for customs clearance, and handle all necessary documentation and administrative procedures on behalf of the ship owners or charterers.
