Bunker Charges (BUC)

Fees levied by the shipping line to cover the cost of fuel (bunkers) used during the transportation of cargo.

What are Bunker Charges (BUC)?

Bunker Charges, often abbreviated as BUC, refer to the costs or fees associated with providing fuel for a vessel during its journey. These charges cover the expenses related to purchasing, storing, and supplying fuel, typically marine fuel (bunker fuel or marine gas oil), required for the operation of the ship’s engines. Bunker charges are an essential component of the overall freight cost and can fluctuate based on changes in global fuel prices. They are usually passed on to the cargo owner or consignee as part of the transportation cost.
