Blanket order

Tags: Glossary

An order for a specific product placed with a supplier for a fixed period of time.

What is a Blanket order?

A blanket order in shipping is an agreement between a buyer and a seller for the purchase and delivery of a specified quantity of goods over a specified period of time. Unlike a regular purchase order, which is typically used for a one-time purchase, a blanket order covers multiple shipments of a product over an extended period.

Under a blanket order, the buyer and seller agree on the terms and conditions of the purchase, including the quantity of goods to be delivered, the delivery schedule, and the pricing. The buyer may request multiple shipments of goods under the same purchase order, which can simplify the ordering process and reduce administrative costs.
