Meaning of Transshipment Cargo

Transshipment cargo refers to goods or shipments that are transferred from one transportation mode or vessel to another at an intermediate point, often at a port or logistics hub, during the journey from the origin to the final destination. This process of transferring cargo is known as transshipment and serves various purposes in the global supply chain.

Transshipment allows logistics providers to choose the most efficient and cost-effective transportation routes. Smaller vessels, for example, can access shallower or more remote ports, and cargo can then be consolidated onto larger, long-haul vessels.
