What does Owner-Operator mean?

In the context of shipping, an owner-operator is a truck driver who owns and operates their own trucking business. Rather than being employed by a trucking company, owner-operators have complete control over their own truck, are responsible for its maintenance and repair, and take on the risks and rewards of running their own business. Owner-operators often work as independent contractors and are responsible for finding their own customers and negotiating their own rates.
