What is a Clear Record?

In shipping, a clear record refers to a document or certificate issued by the customs authorities, indicating that a vessel or cargo has been cleared for departure or arrival.

When a vessel arrives at a port, the captain or shipping agent must submit documents related to the cargo, crew, and vessel to the customs authorities. The customs authorities will then review the documents to ensure that all necessary permits and approvals have been obtained, and all applicable fees and taxes have been paid.

If the customs authorities find that everything is in order, they will issue a clear record or clearance certificate, indicating that the vessel or cargo has been cleared to depart or enter the port. The clear record is important because it provides proof that the vessel or cargo has gone through the necessary customs procedures and has complied with all relevant regulations.
