Breakbulk Delivery for Diesel Engines

Breakbulk Delivery for Diesel Engines | A Case Study

Summary

Al Sharqi Shipping successfully managed the transportation of large, non-dismantled Wartsila engine units and their components from the client’s site in Kobe Port, Japan to Jebel Ali Port in United Arab Emirates. The project involved handling oversized and heavy machinery, requiring specialized logistics solutions to overcome challenges related to cargo size, weight, maintaining the integrity, and coordination among multiple stakeholders.

Client Challenges

Trailer to Ground inside the Port
  • Volume Discrepancies: A few cubic meters were reduced in the actual cargo dimensions as compared to the one provided by Shipper, but the total Chargeable weight volume increased compared to the inspected cargo, leading to additional freight costs.
  • Missing Attachments: One engine had three missing attachments for the hook, requiring lifting points to lift and shift cargo from ground to trailer and trailer to Port.
  • Tarpaulin Coverage Concerns: The customer was worried about inadequate tarpaulin coverage on one engine.

Our Solution

The client’s shipment was a perfect fit for Al Sharqi’s Project Cargo services.

Pre-Transport Engineering Survey

  • Conducted a detailed site survey to determine the optimal route and equipment.
  • Assessed road conditions, bridge capacities, and port handling capabilities.
  • Ensured safe movement without damaging infrastructure.

 From Door to Origin Port

The oversized dimensions and heavy weight of the cargo required either breakbulk or chartering for the Ocean solution.

Based on the Client budget and proposed significant difficulties in handling, loading, and transportation from Door to Door, Al Sharqi Project Cargo team proposed a tactical solution to move the goods from Kobe Door to Door Sharjah.

Specialized Equipment

cranes and handling equipment.
